Consuelo Gomez

Hi everyone!! 

My name is Consuelo Gomez, and I am a Program Director for America SCORES Bay Area in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD). Growing up in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, I experienced firsthand the challenges and opportunities that shape our community. It has been an incredible journey to return and provide America SCORES programming in the very place that shaped me. I can wholeheartedly share that for as long as I could remember a big goal of mine was to provide new experiences for the youth in my community. I never knew exactly what that would look like, but I was confident that one day I would. This is why I am extremely grateful for America SCORES Bay Area and the opportunities to bring such wonderful experiences to our community.  

 

America SCORES Bay Area combines soccer, poetry and service learning, offering students a unique blend of physical activity, creative expression and community engagement. These pillars are not just activities; they are tools that empower our youth, foster their creativity, and encourage them to give back to their community. From soccer practices on school sites to Saturday game days, from poetry writing sessions in classrooms, to reciting poetry on a stage in front of their community, and ending the school year with a campaign for kindness, refurbishing equipment on site and/or cleaning their schools. SCORES Poet Athletes are the fuel behind one of the most demanding professional opportunities I have encountered. Yet I would do it over and over again because I know that these experiences are fostering positive youth development in a community that is so special to me and in more to come. 

 

Since starting this program in PVUSD, I have seen the profound impact it has on our students. I am not only contributing to my community, but also growing personally and professionally. This role has taught me invaluable lessons in management and leadership, allowing me to support and inspire others while also nurturing my own development.  

 

I am passionate about expanding our reach and providing these transformative experiences to more students in other areas. To achieve this, I am raising funds directly benefiting SCORES Poet-Athletes and programming, including year-round after-school enrichment programs, Fields of Dreams, Girls in the Game, Independent Futbol Club (IFC), SCORES Go!, and Youth Coaches Academy.
